OPINION: Three Nevada questions for Joe Biden

As Joe Biden travels to Nevada on Friday, here are three critical questions that he should be asked.

How can Nevada’s hospitality industry survive a Biden national shutdown?

As the Wall Street Journal correctly noted, Joe Biden is the “shutdown” candidate. When ABC’s David Muir pressed Biden on the issue of a national shutdown, Biden was, for once, crystal clear in his response: “I would shut it down.” Nevada’s economy absolutely cannot handle another shutdown. The total losses from previous virus lockdowns cost the Nevada hospitality industry a staggering $38.9 billion, according to the Nevada Resorts Association. The hotels, casinos, and restaurants of Nevada have effectively managed safely reopening, beginning the process of returning to normalcy.

But with Joe Biden in the White House, the shutdown threat would hang over our society like the Sword of Damocles. The national damage from another shutdown would be catastrophic everywhere, but especially so in tourism-dependent Nevada. Thankfully, President Trump takes precisely the opposite approach. Even after contracting the virus himself, he insists that we must not live in fear, we must not let the virus dominate our lives. The risks are real and the China Virus should be taken seriously, but we can mitigate risks sensibly and American medicine continues to excel at treatments and therapeutics. President Trump emphatically declares that there will be no shutdowns -- not for Las Vegas, not for anywhere in America.

Why does Joe Biden want to take guns away from law-abiding Nevadans?

Joe Biden has been consistent throughout the campaign in his intent to gut the Second Amendment. When CNN’s Anderson Cooper asked Biden if he would come for the weapons of legal gun owners, his response was “Bingo, you’re right.” Biden has been clear that he will ban so-called “assault weapons” (a meaningless and redundant catchphrase), including the AR-15, the most popular rifle in America. In fact, he promised to make Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke the effective “gun czar” in a Biden administration. O’Rourke’s anti-gun stances place him at the far left of even the Democrat Party on the issue, as he openly threatens actual government confiscation of presently-legal firearms. Western states like Nevada will not agree to the coastal anti-gun, anti-Bill of Rights agenda of Biden/Harris.

Why would Nevadans allow Joe Biden to raise taxes?

Nevada has long been an oasis from taxes. The no-income tax state grows and thrives in recent years by attracting residents and businesses seeking the freedom to flourish in an opportunity state. In fact, Kamala Harris’s home state of California sees a continual exodus of citizens fleeing the confiscatory taxes and stifling regulation of California for the freedom of Nevada.

In recent years, fully 40% of incoming new Nevadans moved from California. But Joe Biden would try to turn successful states like Nevada into versions of California, because he threatens the largest tax hike in American history. His $4 trillion dollars of new levies is twice as big as anything even Hillary Clinton proposed, and would punish 82% of all Americans by repealing Trump’s historic 2017 tax cuts. In addition, Biden would restore the loophole that allows wealthy residents of high-tax jurisdictions like San Francisco and New York to fully deduct local taxes, effectively forcing low-tax Nevadans to subsidize high earners in blue states. Nevada cannot afford a Biden presidency.
